Funders

The inception phase of ZE-Mobility is made possible with support from the PREO programme - which is funded by IKEA Foundation and UK aid from the UK government, via the Transforming Energy Access platform.

The Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities (PREO) Programme, supported by the IKEA Foundation and UK aid, and delivered by the Carbon Trust and Energy 4 Impact, stimulates clean energy demand in Africa as a way of creating sustainable jobs and reducing poverty through economic growth and empowering women.

The IKEA Foundation is a strategic philanthropy that focuses its grant making efforts on tackling the two biggest threats to children’s futures: poverty and climate change. It currently grants more than €200 million per year to help improve family incomes and quality of life while protecting the planet from climate change. Since 2009, the IKEA Foundation has granted more than €1.5 billion to create a better future for children and their families. In 2021 the Board of the IKEA Foundation decided to make an additional €1 billion available over the next five years to accelerate the reduction of Greenhouse Gas emissions.

The Transforming Energy Access (TEA) platform supports early-stage testing and scale-up of innovative technologies, business models, partnerships and skills that accelerate access to affordable, clean and modern energy for households and enterprises in developing countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. TEA is part of the UK’s wider Ayrton Fund commitment of up to £1bn of International Climate Finance to support clean energy research, development and demonstration (RD&D) of technologies and business models which can help accelerate the clean energy transition in developing countries.
